The paintings
With his latest series “power of limits” Ralf Walraff ventures once again into new territory, turning towards pure painting und returning to traditional and illustrative techniques of painting. Dark, subdued colours but also a blue which begins to glow by the surrounding colours are besides gold foil the dominant shades and materials.
The foundation of these works is pure mathematics of anatomy. Walraff cites Andreas Vesalius (1514 - 1564), the founder of modern scientific anatomy and Leonardo da Vinci. Transferring based on the studies of György Doczis about the harmonic proportions in nature, art and architecture these into paintings by combining them with chromatics to something new. In doing so he manages to integrate anatomic quotes and his own nude photographies in an artistic way.
