Gipsköpfe

plaster/wood/marble - 1994 - © Ralf Walraff

In issue 4/95 we presented the object „summary” in 3D by Ralf Walraff, strictly objective in black and white taken and commented comprehensively by Stephan Tiltz, Leidersbach. Here it became obvious that 3D pictures are more than a poor copy of reality. The spational rendering emphasizes the impression of the subject, makes it understandable.

The graduated designer Walraff has build and created objects and collages since 1974. Since 1976 he participates in group and single exhibitions. The today 37 year old successfully engages himself in photography. His “factory pictures” - unusual black and white nudes, undercooled taken in factory spaces – were accepted and exhibited as the only nudes at the state prize exhibition of North Rhine-Westphalia. With CAP- computer aided painting - he entered new artistic grounds. This is about the combination of collage and computer-manipulated photography by painting, which was shown in 1993 at the exhibition “side notes” at the Volksbank Herzogenrath.

The effort for the adequate reproduction of dimensional object art in two dimensional media and the positive feedback of the publishing of the object “summary” lead Stephan Tiltz, to take further objects three dimensional of the artist Ralf Walraff and to exhibit them. On this he remarks:

“It wouldn’t be enough for me to publish pictures of sculptures which nobody understands. I want to open the door to the artistic world for the reader. They should recognize, feel and by this reduce the frightened distance towards art and understand art as a real enrichment.

For this reason I allow myself to write some very subjective impressions on the individual objects like in „summary“. The art loving human being might get a faster access to the creations of Walraff and the ingenious might get a chance to apprehend recognition instead of just looking at.

That is my concern too.
