Greeting of the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Brazil
With great pleasure the Brazilian embassy took patronage of the exhibition “Myth – gods” which will be presented to the German public on May, 13, 2000 at the Altes Rathaus zu Würselen. It is a very good example how inspiring and enriching a cooperation between German and Brazilian artists can be for both sides.
Márcio Valeriano, the Brazilian dancer and choreographer who died in 1997 created under the name “Myth” a dancing cycle in which he conjured up the gods of the Afro-Brazilian cult Candomblé. The meeting between him and the communication designer from Aachen Ralf Walraff opened new horizons for both artists and encouraged their mutual understanding for the differences of both cultural areas. The video artist Gerd Plitzner was also inspired by the new possibilities created by this exchange and enriched the rhythmic and painted elements of this cooperation with his photo and video art. The results of this artistic cooperation which unfortunately lasted only until 1997 are now presented to the interested public in Würselen.
I congratulate the persons responsible who successfully compiled this extraordinary exhibition and I am positive that it will create a lively echo in the public.
Roberto Abdenur, 2000
world of gods Moreover the gods are far more complex in their being, yes, almost humanly at odds with themselves, as to be able to describe them without doubt. >>
world of soil ...these pictures hide an abundance of images and ideas which cannot be squeezed in a few words or sentences, but which represent not only fantasy but also experience of life. >>more
